Vijayawada: Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivas Rao said Oberoi Group has expressed a desire to build five and seven-star hotels in Visakhapatnam and Tirupati.
"The government has proposed to establish five and seven-star hotels across 13 districts to boost the tourism and hospitality sector through Public-Private Partnership. In this regard, Oberoi Group has come forward to set up five-star and seven-star hotels in Visakhapatnam and Tirupati respectively," he said.
The minister said the government is planning to launch seaplanes to boost tourism in the state. He said special tourism packages are being designed to increase the footfalls. He said plans are set to improve amenities at four tourism zones proposed in the state.
The minister said the government is launching a dedicated mobile application (App) to provide information about destinations, hotels, and special packages.
He said the tourism department suffered a huge loss during the Covid crisis. He said revenue of Rs 60 crore was realized against the usual income of about Rs 120 crore.
He said a new sports policy would be unveiled by the state government to improve infrastructure and encourage sportspersons in rural areas.
He said that the government proposes to build sports centers at 15 locations in all 13 districts of the state.
