Visakhapatnam: Small and medium scale industrial units are set to reopen in Andhra Pradesh after lockdown.

Addressing a press conference, minister for agriculture Kurasala Kannababu said most of the small scale industries were closed during the lockdown. "Hence financial aid would be given to these sick industries in the restart programme," he said.

He said the government would run parallel agriculture and industries for creating large-scale employment in the state.

The minister noted that an important meeting has been scheduled for Saturday in which entrepreneurs, industrialists, and representatives of the public sector undertakings would participate.

The meeting would discuss the post lockdown scenario of the industries, pollution problems in Visakhapatnam city and comprehensive development for the region.

The PSU's role in providing a helping hand to the unemployed through CSR programmes would also be discussed, the minister added.

Minister for culture Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said the city has enough basic infrastructure facilities to develop it as a major industrial hub of the state. He said the government was committed to improving the lives of the underprivileged classes.

Rajya Sabha member V Vijaysai Reddy congratulated GVMC for getting global honors in the smart city concept.
