Vijayawada: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) G Palaraju on Tuesday assumed the charge of Vijayawada city police chief.

This follows the retirement of incumbent commissioner B Srinivasulu.

G Palaraju, who was serving as DIG technical services in the office of Director General of Police (DGP), was appointed in-charge Vijayawada police commissioner.

Earlier during the day, the city police force bid a grand farewell to Srinivasulu with a ceremonial parade. Srinivasulu, who started his career at Nandigama in the Krishna district, worked at various places in the combined state of Andhra Pradesh.

Incidentally, he also retired in the Krishna district as commissioner of Vijayawada. Srinivasulu worked as commissioner of Vijayawada twice in his career.

A farewell function was held at commissionerate office in the evening. Ministers Vellampalli Srinivas, Perni Nani, MLAs Vallabhaneni Vamshi, Malladi Vishnu, Mayor Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi, and other officials participated in the programme.
