Kakinada: Telugu Desam Party leader P Sheshagiri Rao was attacked at his residence in Tuni in Kakinada district on Thursday. The cinematic style attack found in CCTV footage went viral on social media.

As per the CCTV footage, the attacker wearing a swami mala (a necklace considered holy) came to Mr. Rao seeking alms. While Mr. Rao was offering rice, the accused attacked him with a weapon and fled with another unidentified person who was waiting outside the house.

The TDP leader suffered multiple injuries. The attack was caught on a CCTV camera.

According to Kakinada SP M Ravindranath Babu, at 6:45 am, a person guised as a swami approached the victim for alms. When the victim was about to give the alms, the man removed a knife and attacked. "In the process of defending himself, the victim received deep cuts on his left hand. He has also sustained minor injuries to his fingers and head as well. The victim chased the accused but he fled with another unidentified person who was waiting for the accused at the corner of the house", said the SP.

A case has been registered. Four special teams have been deployed headed by ASP. The police said that the CCTV footage is being accessed and a forensic team is also deployed at the scene of crime.

The TDP leader has been admitted to a corporate hospital in Tuni.
