TDP leaders worried investigation will expose their role in temple attacks: YSRCP

Vijayawada: The YSRCP leaders, on 16 January, alleged that the opposition TDP members were frightened of the police investigation on temple attacks as they feared it will expose them and are therefore trying to blame the state government.

The minister for irrigation, Anil Kumar Yadav, said the police investigation revealed that TDP and BJP leaders were involved in nine of the total 29 incidents. He said the attacks were carried out to divert people's attention and to create uncertainty in the state. The minister asserted that the government will take action against those involved in the attacks.

Launching an attack against the TDP supremo and former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Mr. Yadav pointed out that Mr. Naidu has a history of violating traditions. He recalled that the TDP chief had performed poojas and other traditional rituals wearing shoes and had shown no devotion or respect for Hindu gods or the religion.

Claiming that tantric rituals were performed at the Kanakadurga temple and Srikalahasti during the TDP regime, the minister said Mr. Naidu has been trying to disturb the religious harmony and create religious disputes in the state to gain political mileage. The truth about those involved in the temple attacks will be revealed after the police investigation, Mr. Yadav further added and said the police are conducting an impartial investigation but the TDP leaders are making false allegations against them for fear of getting exposed.

Meanwhile, speaking at a separate press conference, party spokesman and MLA Ambati Rambabu affirmed that YSRCP has no religion, caste, and has no need to incite communal disputes across the state. He said that TDP and BJP leaders are trying to create a religious rift in the society for the sake of political gains and said Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy's rule is beyond caste and religious politics. He said that politics should not interfere with religion.

Mr. Rambabu said that Opposition leaders have been trying to profit by turning politics into religion to prove their existence as they suffered a huge defeat in the last elections. He said that Mr. Naidu had no respect for any religion and soon his party's roles in the temple attacks will be revealed. He questioned why the TDP chief was not talking about his party member Akhilapriya who was recently arrested in a kidnapping case.
