Ten injured in group clash over inter-caste marriage in Vizianagaram

Ten injured in group clash over inter-caste marriage in Vizianagaram

Vizianagaram: Ten persons were injured in a clash between two groups at the Malyada village under Nellimarla police station limits in Vizianagaram district on 25 June. The clash was over a recent inter-caste marriage, the police said.

Recently a youth from the SC community had married a girl from the BC community.

A group of women from the SC community was collecting water from a borewell when they were abused by the women of the other community over the marriage. The argument between the women led to a clash. The men from both communities joined the clash and threw sticks and stones at each other.



The police said 10 people from both groups were injured in the clash. They were taken to the government hospital where their condition is said to be stable.

Police have been deployed in the village to prevent any untoward incidents. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

The police said more than three inter-caste marriages were reported in the village in the past year.
