Tiger scare at Vizianagaram village after animal kills sheep

Vizianagaram/Srikakulam: A tiger reportedly attacked a herd of sheep at Birasadavalasa village under Mentada mandal in Vizianagaram district. It killed a sheep and injured three sheep in the forest area of the village.

The locals believe that the animal entered Birasadavalasa from Gulivindada village under Kothavalasa mandal in the district.

It may be recalled that a four-year-old male tiger that prowled parts of Anakapalle district for over a month had entered Vizianagaram district around two weeks ago.

The tiger has killed calves and sheep in a few places. However, no attacks on humans have been reported. Though the forest officials tried to trap the animal, their efforts proved futile.

Following the latest incident at Birasadavalasa, the forest officials visited the village to identify the pugmarks of the animal. They said the tiger moved to East Godavari district from Vizianagaram district through Narsipatnam forest of Anakapalle district. The tiger might have entered Andhra Pradesh either from Odisha or Chhattisgarh, the officials added. They have appealed to the people not to panic but remain alert.
