Tirupati: Tirumala Up-Ghat road was closed after heavy rains triggered landslides on Wednesday morning.

It may be recalled that a few weeks ago both Ghat Roads of Tirumala were closed after inclement weather uprooted trees and triggered rock slides at several places.

Several vehicles carrying devotees were stranded after authorities announced the Tirumala Up-Ghat road closure on Wednesday morning.

Engineering, vigilance, and forest personnel visited the spot and are chalking out plans to clear the debris and repair the damaged road. It may take some more hours before stranded motorists are allowed to ply again.

"We are chalking out plans to allow the vehicles through the link road in a phased manner to clear the traffic," said a senior officer of TTD.

It may be recalled that the heavy rains had hit the pilgrim traffic in the second week of November. The temple town experienced sporadic incidents of landslides and falling of trees on the Ghat road and Alipiri trekking route.

TTD officials said that no injuries and casualties were reported on Wednesday.
