TN donors seek TTD temple's expansion in Chennai, donate Rs 5 crore
The amount has been contributed towards the proposed purchase of land for the expansion of the Tirumala temple at T Nagar in Chennai
By Sri Lakshmi Muttevi Published on 7 Aug 2023 10:07 AM GMTTirupati: A group of nine donors from Tamil Nadu donated Rs 5 crore to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Monday to purchase land for expanding the existing Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Chennai.
On Monday, the donorsā delegation, led by TTDās Local Advisory Committee (LAC) president for Tamil Nadu, Sekhar Reddy, handed over a demand draft (DD) to the temple bodyās chairman YV Subba Reddy at Annamayya Bhavan.
The amount has been contributed towards the proposed purchase of land for the expansion of the existing Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple on Venkatanarayana Road at T Nagar in Chennai. The LAC has identified and is worth Rs 35 crore adjacent to the temple for expansion.
Earlier, a few donors had already donated Rs 8,15,15,002 towards the purchase of this proposed land.
Tirumala temple replica in Navi Mumbai
The TTD governs the ancient hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala in Tirupati and is the richest trust of Hindu temples. In June, bhoomi puja was conducted for constructing a replica of the Tirumala temple at Ulve in Navi Mumbai. Following a request from the Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had asked the TTD to build the temple of Lord Venkateshwara on the lines of the one in Tirumala.
The Maharashtra government has allotted 10 acres of land for the temple of Lord Balaji at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai. CMD of Raymond Group Gautam Hari Singhania has come forward to donate Rs 60-75 crore towards the construction of the temple.
Temple in Jammu
Another Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple was opened in the Majin village in Jammu in June. The temple was built at a cost of Rs 30 crore on 62 acres, and another Rs 5 crore was spent to set up a Veda Pathashala and Kalyana Mandapam.
