Two persons electrocuted to death after car hits electric pole in East Godavari

East Godavari: Two persons, including the driver, were electrocuted to death after their car hit an electric pole on the national highway near Mallisala village under Jaggampeta police limits in East Godavari district on 28 January.

The East Godavari district police chief, Adnan Nayeem Asmi, said the incident occurred when five members of a family were returning from Gokavaram town in East Godavari to Vizag on Thursday morning.

The police said the duo was electrocuted after the power lines fell on the car when the pole collapsed. The deceased have been identified as Veerni Hanumanthu Rao (56) of Visakhapatnam and Mattu Sateesh (41) of East Godavari district.

The other three who were in the car at the time of the accident - Veerni Ramadevi, Mannem Bhanu, and Mannem Adithya - survived with burn injuries. They were sitting in the back seat of the car and managed to escape. The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital.

The police have registered a case and an investigation is on.
