Move over Lammasingi, Tajangi; Vanjangi is top tourist destination in Vizag Agency

Visakhapatnam: Vanjangi with its chilly weather and the famous 'Megha Samudram' (which literally translates to 'ocean of clouds') has replaced Lammasingi (Lambasingi), Tajangi, and Dallapalle in Vizag Agency as the most preferred destination of the youth.

The Vanjangi hills in Vizag Agency have emerged as the top tourist destination and thousands of visitors have been thronging the hill station.

Though Lammasingi, a tiny tribal hamlet under Chintapalle mandal in the Agency, is popular for its cold temperatures that can go down to 3-4Ā° Celsius in the winter, it is the beautiful sunrises and the dense, wispy clouds of Vanjangi Hills that is now attracting visitors.

Vanjangi Hills, which gets its name from the small hamlet of Vanajangi, is located 3,400 feet above the mean sea level. It is around 100 km from Vizag city (a three-four hour drive) and 6 km from Paderu. One has to trek for 3 km through the forest to reach the destination.

Suresh Kumar, a student from Vizag city, said, "We used to visit Lammasingi once a month but now, we have switched over to Vanajangi. The best time to visit Vanjangi is between 5 and 6 a.m to see the beautiful sunrise. It is a great delight to watch the sun rise and witness the beauty of the mountains."

The hills have already earned the moniker 'Megha Samudram' or ocean of clouds. And the name seems quite appropriate, too, since the tourists are treated to a rare sight of billowing white clouds every morning. The golden sunlight tinting the clouds as they float endlessly is a sight to behold.

Over 2,000-3,000 people visit the hills on the weekends. While some people are offering tents for the tourists, visitors are demanding better facilities like toilets and drinking water. The project officer of Integrated Tribal Development Agency, Paderu Ronanki Gopalakrishna, said they have prepared an action plan to create facilities at Vanjangi and promote it as a tourist destination.
