Visakhapatnam: Imagine a venomous king cobra being operated upon in a hospital! It might be scary, but a video of a cobra receiving stitches on the head after suffering wounds is going viral on social media.

A king cobra was injured after it fell from a house in Gajuwaka, in Visakhapatnam city. Rokkam Kiran Kumar, the founder of Snake Saver Society, immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the reptile. It was taken to the nearby veterinary hospital where Dr. Sunil performed minor surgery. The snake received four stitches on the head. The video shows how Kiran Kumar held the snake on the operation table outside the dispensary while the doctor performed the surgery. Later Kiran Kumar helped the reptile to drink water.

"We got a call from a household that a king cobra was injured and unable to move. People thought it was dead. Perhaps, people who saw the snake might have tried to push it from the building and that is why it got injured," Kiran Kumar told News Meter. "I took it to my place, kept it in a glass container, and observed its condition. After I found that the snake had a head injury and was unable to eat, I took it to the nearby veterinarian," he added.

The cobra is said to be stable but in pain. After one more medical check-up, the team will be releasing it in the forest area. Kiran Kumar said this was the second such incident when he took a snake for surgery. About seven years back, he found an injured Python and got it operated upon in the hospital.

Kiran Kumar, popularly known as Snake Kiran in Visakhapatnam, has saved people's lives from venomous reptiles. He has also saved some snake species which were on the brink of extinction. He has recently launched a website: https://snakesaverkiran.com/

With a team of 18 members, Kiran Kumar catches at least 20 snakes daily and gets regular calls from households. Kiran Kumar once caught an Indian cobra and ten baby cobras at a car washing bay in Old Gajuwaka.
