Vizag: 3 wanted women Maoists arrested; arms, explosives seized

Visakhapatnam, December 6: Vizag rural police arrested three woman Maoists in Visakhapatnam Agency on Monday.

They were identified as Marri Valasi alias Rame, Vanathala Lakshmi alias Sangeetha and Korra Devi alias Seetha. Valasi carried a bounty of Rs 4 lakh on her head, while the other two carried Rs one lakh each. The trio was arrested under Koyyuru Police Station limits.

Police said Valasi (30) joined the Maoist party in 2007 and became Area Committee Member in 2017. She participated in five encounters with the police both in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh between 2016 and 2020. Police recovered 3 kg of explosives packed in a food carriage, detonators, a country-made pistol, and some ammunition.

Similarly, 23-year-old Vanathala Lakshmi was a party member and had participated in two encounters in Chintapalle (2020) and Koyyuru (2021).

Korra Devi (20) was a member of Galikonda Dalam and an expert in detonating mines. Police recovered a steel carriage containing 2 kg of explosives and four detonators.
