Vizag: Cops chase down ganja-laden car, seize 150 kg cannabis

Visakhapatnam: Special Enforcement Bureau sleuths chased down a car and seized over 150 kg of dry cannabis in Vizag. The smugglers, however, fled after abandoning the vehicle.
Acting on a tip-off, the SEB personnel laid an ambush at Vepagunta junction. When a Maruti Breeza reached the Vepagunta junction, SEB personnel signaled the driver to stop. However, the driver sped away. SEB personnel immediately chased the car. When the driver tried to flee towards Hanaumanthawaka junction, SEB alerted another team that lay in waiting.
Suspecting that they might get caught, the smugglers abandoned the vehicle near Hanumanthuwaka Junction and fled. Later, officials seized 150 kgs of cannabis worth over Rs20 lakh from the car.
City police chief Ch Srikanth said they have intensified the drive against ganja smuggling. He said several accused have been held and contraband drugs seized in the past few months.
