Visakhapatnam: The seventh edition of Vizag Navy Marathon 2022 is slated to be held on 13 November. It aims to make Vizag a landmark destination for runners across India.

The Indian Navy along with Sports Arena is looking to give the runners the best experience. The Vizag Navy Marathon has been seeing a constant steady increase in the number of participants from 1,800 in the first edition to over 19,000 in the last edition that was held in 2019.

The official mascot of the marathon was unveiled by the race director, Dr. Muralidhar Nannapaneni, Commodore Naresh Warikoo Commanding Officer INS Kalinga, and others on Tuesday.

This year, the Vizag Navy Marathon team is working on the concept of sustainability and is adopting measures like no plastic bottles and no flex banners to advertise the event. They also plan to recycle products from the waste collected on the day. "The aim is to show the world that such large-scale events need not produce huge and harmful waste for the environment. We can each adopt little measures consciously for a greener and better environment," they added.

The marathon will be held in four categories: Full Marathon (42.195 kms), Half Marathon (21.1 kms), 10 kms, and 5 kms. The last date to register (www.vizagnavymarathon.com) is 30 October. The run starts on Beach Road near Kali temple and goes along the beautiful stretch towards Bheemli, the organisers added.
