Visakhapatnam: The Vizag city police are chalking out plans to deport a few active rowdy sheeters from the city. Despite repeated counselling sessions aimed to change the mindset of rowdy-sheeters in Vizag city, some of them continue to indulge in illegal activities such as smuggling of ganja, attacking rival gangs, and extortion.

Interestingly, new rowdy-sheeters have been added to the list in the past few years while very few names have been removed from the list.

A few days ago, the city task force police arrested five persons, including two rowdy-sheeters Dhoni Satish and P. Gowri Sai. The police seized 25 kg of dry ganja, six mobile phones, a dummy pistol, and a knife from them at Anandapuram. They also seized seven bikes that were used for illegal activities.

City police chief Ch. Srikanth said they have been monitoring the activities of the rowdy sheeters. "We will review and take a decision to deport the rowdy sheeters," he said.

ACP (task force) A. Trinad Rao said Vizag city has over 500 rowdy-sheeters and they have categorised them into "Active" and "Regular." As of now, around 90 rowdy sheeters were active.

Recently, five rowdy sheeters were expelled from Vijayawada. The Vijayawada police commissioner, Kanthi Rana Tata, issued the orders to expel Bevara Srinu alias Pilla Srinu, Macharla Bala Swamy alias Pandu, Banavathu Srinu Naik, Mallavarapu Vijay Kumar alias Masalam, and Katla Kali.

The five were involved in a series of criminal activities and were arrested and sent to jail but failed to mend their ways even after being released from jail. Two other rowdy sheeters, Thummala Manoj and Mataparthi Durga Prasad, were also expelled. A total of seven rowdy sheeters were expelled from the city so far.

The Vizag police said they have been counselling active and regular rowdy sheeters to change their ways and warned them against indulging in anti-social activities. "Despite our efforts, some rowdy-sheeters didn't change their attitude and continued to indulge in illegal activities. We are chalking out new strategies, including deporting the notorious rowdy sheeters from the city, to curtail their activities. Following deportation, rowdy-sheeters can't enter Vizag city for some months without prior permission from the police. If they enter the city, we will register cases against them under the PD Act," said a senior police officer.

A few years ago, there were two major gangs headed by rowdy sheeters in Vizag city. One gang was led by Telugu Anil Kumar and Kasim while another gang was led by B. Murali, Chittimamu, Podugu Kiran and Latchu. Due to rivalry, Latchu and Anil were eliminated by their rival gangs, Podugu Kiran died by suicide in the central prison, and Kasim was murdered by the rival gang.
