Vizianagaram: NMC grants permission for admissions to new Government Medical College

Amaravati: National Medical Council (NMC) has granted permission for starting admissions in Government Medical College, Vizianagaram, from this academic session. Earlier this month, the team from NMC visited the college premises and conducted inspections.

The NMC has thoroughly examined all aspects of the facilities, teaching, non-teaching staff, facilities, established labs, libraries, hostels, hospitals, and facilities. Orders were received, and a total of 150 seats were allocated," State Health Minister Vidadala Rajini said. The medical college is being constructed with Rs 500 crore in Gajularega area in Vizianagaram. Some of the faculty members have already been appointed for the college.

According to the Minister, the construction of 17 government medical colleges in the state is under process with a total cost of Rs. 8500 crore. "It is a matter of pride to get first permission for Vizianagaram Medical College from North Andhra Pradesh first," she said.

4 other colleges to begin soon:

Health Minister said that the government is moving ahead with the determination to start four more government medical colleges in the state for this academic year. All the necessary arrangements are being made to start medical colleges in Machilipatnam, Eluru, Vijayanagar, Nandyala, and Rajahmundry, and we are just waiting for permission to be granted.

Five new medical colleges with 750 seats will be made available to medical aspirants. Each medical college will be accommodated with 150 seats. Further, the government has proposed to upgrade all 11 existing medical colleges, for which Rs 3,820 crore has been sanctioned.

In the second phase, the classes would begin at the medical colleges in Paderu, Madanapalli, Markapuram, Pulivendula, and Adoni from the 2024-25 academic year.

Earlier, chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made efforts to increase the number of PG seats in the state. While they were 911 PG seats in 2019, the number increased to 1249 now. "For this academic year, we are making efforts to get additional 637 seats in medical colleges", Minister said.
