Vizianagaram: The Vizianagaram police cracked a hit and run case that had left a newly-married couple in Srikakulam district dead on 31 May. A car had knocked down a motorcycle on NH-16 killing the couple on the spot near Kanimetta village under Pusapatirega police station limits in the district.

The police said the couple was heading towards Vizag when the accident occurred. The victims had been identified as Rowthu Yogeswara Rao (27) and his wife Rowthu Rohini (22) of Gajula Kollivalasa village under Amudalavalasa mandal in Srikakulam district. The driver of the car had fled from the spot.

Initially, the police didn't have any clue to identify the vehicle involved in the accident. They had only found a spare part of the unidentified vehicle at the accident spot. Based on this clue, they began their investigation. The cops visited car showrooms and found that the spare part belonged to an Ertiga car.

Vizianagaram DSP P. Anil said they examined the CCTV footage at Chilakapalem and Nathavalasa toll plazas and footage from a pharma company located near NH-16. The police finally tracked the car with the help of CCTV camera footage. It was registered in the name of Nayini Sankara Reddi (33), a resident of Kesavarayunipalem village under Laveru mandal in Srikakulam. The police arrested Sankara Reddi and seized the car.
