Bhogapuram police arrested both the accused. They have been identified as Savaravalli Rupasri, 22, a B-Pharmacy student, and her boyfriend Karrothu Varun Sai, 22, a BBM student. Both are residents of Savaravalli village in Vizianagaram district.
DSP of Vizianagaram P Anil said 40-year-old-woman Savaravalli Lakshmi was found dead under suspicious circumstances on May 6 at Savaravalli village. Local doctors after examining her said she might have died of suffocation. Anil said Bhogapuram police initially registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC (Suspicious Death) and began investigation to unravel the mystery behind the death.
Lakshmi had two daughters. Her younger daughter married her boyfriend against the wishes of elders around a year ago. Recently, Lakshmi came to know that her elder daughter Rupasri is also in love with one Varun Sai. She admonished Rupasri and refused to give consent to their marriage.
Considering her mother a bigger impediment, Rupasri with the support of her boyfriend decided to eliminate her and camouflage it as a natural death. On May 6, Rupasri along with her boyfriend smothered her to death. Later, Rupasri alerted the neighbors that her mother died.
Neighbors rushed to Lakshmi's house and found her still alive. They shifted her to a private hospital at Tagarapuvalasa in Vizag city where the doctors declared her dead on arrival. "Investigation has revealed that Rupasri and her boyfriend talked over the phone before committing the crime. CCTV footage also showed that Varun Sai visited Lakshmi's house on May 6. The duo confessed to the crime," said Anil.
