Polavaram: Minister for Water Resources P Anil Kumar Yadav said water from Polavaram will be released by Kharif 2022.

After reviewing the Polavaram project, the Minister assured that the government shall provide water by 2022 Kharif as per the instructions of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

He stated that no work was taken up in the first three years of the TDP government. He said they rushed to complete them in the last two years without proper supervision. He said that the diaphragm wall was damaged due to poor planning during the construction of the cofferdam. He said not even a single household was rehabilitated.

He said opposition leaders are intentionally politicizing Polavaram issue and issuing harsh statements against the government.

Anil Kumar said five engineers were among 80 staff members of the Irrigation Department who died due to COVID. "Thousands of workers are still working bravely. Leaders should be careful so that morale of workers is not hit," he said.

He said that Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh didn't even come out for ten days in the last one and half years. "They are simply criticizing the government while sitting in bedrooms and talking through zoom conferences. Thousands of migrant workers from other states have gone to their homes last year," he said.

The Minister said COVID has hampered works across the country and Andhra is not an exception. He congratulated the staff who left their families and are working in COVID situations. He said the government plans to rehabilitate 17,000 houses by April this year.

"With thousands of cases in both Godavari districts, a situation arose where no one came forward for work. The government shall keep its word and no matter how many hurdles come, they will definitely rehabilitate all those families," he said.
