West Godavari: A few days after a video of four engineering students brutally thrashing a student in a hostel room went viral, the West Godavari district police have arrested the four students.
According to the Bhimavaram II town police station's circle inspector Krishna Kumar, the students are pursuing computer science course at the Sagi Rama Krishnam Raju (SRKR) Engineering College in Bhimavaram, West Godavari district. They are living in a private hostel in the city.
A student named Ankit was brutally beaten with sticks by Praveen, Prem, Niraj, and Swaroop. A video of the incident was later posted on social media. The students were reportedly arguing over a girl. The college has reportedly suspended all five, including the victim Ankit.
Ankit sustained injuries all over his body. There were allegations that the students burnt the victim's hand and chest with an iron box.
During the interrogation, the accused students said they thrashed Ankit over a love affair. Soon after the incident, the students were suspended and given transfer certificates. The police arrested the four students and booked them under sections 384, 324, 342, and 506 read with section 34 of the IPC.
