West Godavari: A 21-year-old man allegedly raped his nine-year-old cousin and later tried to end his life in a village under Veeravasaram Mandal in the West Godavari district.
Sub-Inspector of Veeravasaram Pydi Babu said the victim is a Class- IV student and her mother has been working in Muscat. The victim is staying with her grandmother.
Police said Taneti Satya Rakesh (21), who is the cousin of the victim, is staying in the neighboring house.
Police said on September 8, the girl's grandmother left for Krishna district to attend a function. Noticing that the girl is alone Satya Rakesh barged into the house and raped her.
Later the father of the victim found her groaning in pain. He complained to the parents of the accused, but they threatened to commit suicide if he approached the police.
After remaining silent for some days, the father of the victim lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday night. Police immediately swung into action and registered a case against Satya Rakesh under section 376 (A) (B), 5 (M), and section 6 of POCSO Act.
Later, the accused tried to end his life by consuming pesticide. He was taken to the hospital where his condition is stable.
