Srikakulam: A woman and her daughter were found dead under suspicious circumstances at her home in the Hanumannagar area under Narasannapeta police station limits in Srikakulam district on the night of 11 March.

The deceased were identified as G. Latha (21) and her 16-month-old daughter Lasya. Both were found lifeless on the bed in their home.

Latha's husband G. Ramesh was taken into police custody for questioning after the woman's parents alleged that Ramesh, his mother, and brother were behind the double murder.

The police said Latha, a native of Koilam village under L.N Peta mandal in Srikakulam district, married Ramesh, a native of Narasannapeta, over three years ago. The couple has two children - a boy Tanish and Lasya.

Ramesh is a driver and recently he had allegedly developed an illicit affair with another woman. When Latha came to know about her husband's extramarital affair, she pulled him up. Later, there were disputes between them over the affair.

The locals said that Ramesh used to beat Latha whenever she questioned him about his affair. They further said that Ramesh and his family visited the Lord Shiva temple on Thursday morning for Maha Shivaratri. But Latha and her daughter were found dead late in the night under mysterious conditions.

The sub-inspector of Narasannapeta, Satyanarayana, said they are yet to ascertain whether it was a case of murder or suicide. The post-mortem report might reveal more information, he said. A case has been registered against Ramesh, he added.
