Nellore: A mother set her five-year-old daughter on fire before immolating herself at Nellorepalem Center in Atmakur Mandal of Nellore district in the wee hours on Friday.
Police said that the woman's son Mahesh escaped the attempt and informed others about the incident.
Police said Subbulu, 27, and her daughter Madhuravani, 5, and son Mahesh of Nellore got down at Nellorepalem Centre in the wee hours on Friday. She tried to set all her family members on fire. However, Mahesh managed to escape.
Police said that Subbulu and Madhuravani died on the spot. Panicked Mahesh approached the nearby traders and hoteliers for help. Local people said the trio reached the place by bus from Bellary in Karnataka. Atmakur Police are investigating the case.
In a separate incident, a mother and her son died under suspicious circumstances at Marikavalasa in Vizag city.
The deceased have been identified as V Saritha, 34, and V Chetan,3. Police said Saritha's husband Ravi Kumar shut down his restaurant near Anandapuram in Vizag city following the losses. Kumar was not at home when the incident occurred.
Police said Saritha and her younger son were found dead, while her elder son was sleeping on another bed. Police suspect that financial constraints might have been the reason for the suspected suicide of the mother and child. A case has been registered and the investigation is on.
