Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh civil supplies minister Kodali Venkateswara Rao (Nani) on Saturday flayed TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu for falsely claiming that payments for paddy procurement were done within 48 hours during the TDP rule. He clarified that the state government led by YSRCP had cleared over Rs. 960 crores pending arrears left towards paddy procurement.
The minister said Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy had paid Rs. 4,000 crore towards the dues kept pending by the TDP government to farmers within three months after coming to power in 2019. Both the state and Centre procured 28 lakh metric tonnes of paddy and paid Rs. 1,637 crore to farmers by the time Chandrababu wrote a letter to the Chief Minister, Nani added. According to the instructions of the Chief Minister, the government is paying the farmers within 21 days of crop procurement and so far only Rs. 1,619 crore is yet to be paid, the minister said.
Kodali Nani said the Centre is yet to release the pending arrears of about Rs. 3.229 crore to the state and added that although there has been a delay in clearing those dues, the government has been paying the farmers from the state treasury. He said that the former Chief Minister, Mr. Naidu, doesn't even know the difference between bran and grain and is afraid of writing a letter to the Centre fearing about his cases.
He slammed the TDP chief for betraying one crore farmers by promising to waive off Rs. 85,000 crore farm loans during the 2014 elections and not clearing even 20 per cent of the promised amount during his five-year rule. The minister also rebuked Nara Lokesh's allegations against the Chief Minister and said he was screaming like a madman who was confined to his house and Zoom app.
