Vijayawada: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national general secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh on Tuesday said slammed the YSRCP for targeting farmers and sais farmers and their families were becoming victims of attacks, harassment, and land grabbers almost on a daily basis in the state.
Stating that at least one farmer is coming out on the roads every day to tell the people about the injustice done to their families, Lokesh said that in a recent incident a local YSRCP minister's followers had hatched a plan to grab the lands of a farmer, Vema Reddy, at Rajupalem village in Hindupur Assembly constituency, Anantapur district.
He alleged that the ruling party's gangsters used JCBs to dig up and breach the farmer's lands. In a statement here, he slammed the minister's gang for diverting canal water through Vema Reddy's lands. Despite several complaints, officials took no action against the offenders, he said adding that there are videos showing YSRCP leaders harassing the farmer's family. Action should be initiated against the guilty before they do greater injustice, Lokesh said.
The TDP leader said the ruling party leaders were grabbing the lands of helpless farmers. A farmer, Lakshmi Reddy's family had attempted suicide at Akkampalli in Anantapur district following the attempts by the YSRCP to grab their lands. The family was solely dependent on these lands. They are now living in constant fear of encroachment by the gangsters, Lokesh said.
Condemning the "non-stop attacks on Dalits", the TDP MLC said the YSRCP leaders and volunteers had launched a joint attack on sarpanch Macherla during a grama sabha at Kondapuram village in the Uayagiri Assembly segment in Nellore. The sarpanch was targeted and victimized because he did not approve the YSRCP leaders' move to use false documents to carry out illegal activities regarding the CJFS lands there, Lokesh said.
