YSRCP MLA Kanna Babu booked for threatening rival candidate

YSRCP MLA from Yelamanchili, Uppalapati Ramanamurthy Raju alias Kanna Babu was arrested by the police on February 6 on the charges of threatening a rival candidate in the ensuing gram panchayat elections.

Visakhapatnam: YSRCP MLA from Yelamanchili, Uppalapati Ramanamurthy Raju alias Kanna Babu was arrested by the police on February 6 on the charges of threatening a rival candidate in the ensuing gram panchayat elections. However, he was later released on station bail.

Against the backdrop of TDP MLA, K Atchannaidu, being arrested for intimidating a rival candidate in gram panchayat elections, an audio clip wherein a ruling party, YSRCP MLA from Yelamanchili was also in a soup threatening a sarpanch candidate. The phone conversation had gone viral on social media platforms.

Rambilli police had registered a case against the MLA Kanna Babu after checking the veracity of the complaint.

The complainant L Santosh said that his uncle is contesting against a YSRCP backed candidate in Lalamkoduru panchayat in Rambilli Mandal. However, the MLA allegedly over the phone threatened him with dire consequences sending him to jail if his uncle did not withdraw the nomination.

He filed the complaint submitting the audio clip of his phone conversation with the MLA to the local police.
