YSRCP supporter’s death in Palnadu: Andhra HC stays probe against Jagan for two weeks

Amravati: Andhra HC temporarily stays probe against former CM in YSRCP supporter’s death

Amaravati: In a relief to YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday stayed all proceedings and investigation against him for two weeks in connection with the death of a party supporter during his recent visit to Rentapalla village in Palnadu district.

What happened during Jagan’s Palnadu visit?

On June 18, Jagan had visited Rentapalla to console the family members of a party leader who had died by suicide a year ago, allegedly due to harassment by TDP leaders and the local police.

During this visit, C Singayya, a supporter of the YSRCP, reportedly fell under the wheels of a vehicle in Jagan’s convoy and died on the spot.

Police book Jagan as accused

Following the incident, police registered a case naming the vehicle driver as Accused No. 1 and Jagan as Accused No. 2. Initially, police maintained that Singayya did not fall under any vehicle belonging to Jagan’s convoy.

However, based on additional evidence gathered later, they claimed he had indeed fallen under the vehicle in which Jagan was travelling, prompting them to book the opposition leader.

High Court relief

Jagan filed a petition in the High Court seeking to quash the FIR against him. His counsel, Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy, informed the media that the court has now stayed all further proceedings and investigation for two weeks and posted the matter for hearing after a fortnight.

Earlier interim relief

On June 27, the High Court had restrained the police from taking any coercive action against Jagan until July 1. With Tuesday’s order, the stay on further action will continue until the next hearing.
