SCR wins three national energy conservation awards

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has won three national energy conservation awards announced by the bureau of energy efficiency of the Union ministry of power.

The diesel loco shed in Vijayawada won the top prize in industry/railway workshop category while Lekha Bhavan (SCR accounts office building) won the second prize in building/government office category and the South Central zone received a certificate of merit in transport/zonal railway category.

The awards for 2020 were declared as part of the national energy conservation week being celebrated from 14 to 21 December.

The national energy conservation awards are announced every year to recognise the efforts of various industrial units, establishment, and organisations that have shown exemplary performance in conservation of energy and effective utilisation of available energy.

Gajanan Mallya, the general manager of South Central Railway, said, "Winning three prestigious awards at the national level is a great achievement and it indicates commitment shown by each and every employee of the zone. South Central Railway has been at the forefront of energy conservation and has consistently won these awards from the Union ministry of power for the past nine years."

He also said that the zone is able to bag these awards through relentless efforts in the area of energy efficiency and green initiatives taken by all divisions, workshops, field units of the departments, amid tough competition from various ministries, PSUs, and the corporate sector.
