Hyderabad: The Telangana government’s flagship Indiramma Housing Scheme is making swift progress, with over 1.73 lakh houses currently under construction and 5,000 houses almost ready for handover.

1.74 lakh beneficiaries sanctioned so far

Housing Corporation Managing Director VP Gautam said on Friday that of the 1.74 lakh beneficiaries sanctioned so far, construction works have commenced for nearly all.

Around 57,000 houses have reached the basement stage, with wall construction underway, while 8,000 houses have completed slab works.

ā€œWe are planning to conduct large-scale house-warming ceremonies soon for the 5,000 houses nearing completion,ā€ he said.

Priority to poorest families

He stated that in the first phase, houses were sanctioned to the poorest of the poor, ensuring that the most deserving families benefit first. Approvals were given just two months ago, yet construction is advancing at a remarkably fast pace, he added.

Funds released directly

So far, the government has released Rs 386.12 crore to beneficiaries who are building houses as per guidelines. ā€œFunds are directly credited into beneficiaries’ bank accounts every Monday. This week alone, Rs 115 crore was disbursed,ā€ Gautam explained.

Strict verification to ensure eligibility

Highlighting rigorous monitoring, he said a 360-degree verification using technology has been conducted to confirm beneficiary eligibility. Of 12,700 beneficiaries verified, 10,750 were found eligible, while 1,950 were deemed ineligible.

Ineligible beneficiaries identified

Those found ineligible include government employees, RCC house owners, and individuals who received houses under previous schemes. Gautam clarified that these were preliminary findings and denied reports claiming that 20,000 houses have been cancelled.

ā€œDistrict collectors have been instructed to replace ineligible beneficiaries with other eligible poor families,ā€ he said.

Gautam emphasised that the government’s goal is to ensure all deserving families receive houses under the Indiramma scheme without fail. ā€œWe are committed to providing housing for every eligible poor family,ā€ he affirmed.
