Hyderabad: Telangana has decided to prioritize backward districts for the new Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) road proposals.

Roads, Buildings (R&B), and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the previous government had completely neglected these areas.

During a four-hour review meeting at the R&B office in Erramanzil on Monday, the minister instructed officials to finalize the HAM proposals on a district-wise basis. The meeting was attended by Shadnagar MLA Veerlapally Shankar, Devarkadra MLA Madhusudan Reddy, Road Development Corporation Chairman Malreddy Ramreddy, Special CS Vikas Raj, and R&B Chief Engineers Jayabharati, Mohan Naik, Rajeshwar Reddy, and Laxman, along with Superintending and Executive Engineers from all districts.

Minister Venkat Reddy highlighted that new land acquisition will not be necessary for the HAM roads, thereby avoiding an additional financial burden. He emphasized giving priority to roads with high traffic and suggested that the proposals should include roads longer than 10 km to develop connectivity corridors. He believes this will boost socio-economic activity in rural Telangana.

The new projects will involve converting single-lane roads to double lanes and double-lane roads to those with paved shoulders (10 meters wide). Some high-traffic roads will also be converted to four-lane roads under the HAM. The minister stated that approximately 4,000 km of roads will be renewed, with a focus on building new infrastructure and strengthening and maintaining existing roads.

In a separate matter, the minister announced that he would request Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to urgently release ₹100 crore for the repair of roads severely damaged by the recent heavy rains. He directed Chief Engineer Mohan Naik to gather detailed information from the field.

Additionally, the minister set a two-year target for the completion of key buildings like the High Court and Osmania Hospital. He also ordered officials to immediately deposit compensation funds into the accounts of those who lost their land for the northern part of the Regional Ring Road land acquisition.
