Hyderabad: A 45-year-old farmer, Ravi Kumar, died by suicide in Medak district in Telangana. In his suicide note addressed to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Ravi said he was unable to get a remunerative price for his paddy crop. He also mentioned the hopelessness of his engineer son.
This is the second farmer death in a week over the paddy crisis.
On 7 December, a 70-year-old paddy farmer died of a heart attack in Karimnagar district. Soon afterward, protests rocked the paddy procurement centre at Abadi Jammikunta in Karimnagar.
The deceased was identified as Bitla Iylaiah of Abadi Jammikunta. He had brought his paddy produce to a procurement centre but officials refused to accept it on the pretext that its moisture content wasn't within the prescribed limits. Later, he suffered a heart attack while drying his paddy and died on the spot.
