By Newsmeter Network Published on 4 July 2022 3:18 PM GMTHyderabad: All the schools in Telangana-government and private will remain closed on 5 July as the Akhil Bharathiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) has called for a statewide bandh in schools. The ABVP has called for a bandh for non-distribution of textbooks to the schools in Telangana and for the arrest of 34 ABVP leaders.
The arrested ABVP leaders of Osmania University were reportedly protesting against the delay in distribution of textbooks in schools on July 2 in front of the Commissioner and Directorate of School Education office in Lakdikapul. According to sources from ABVP, 9 leaders were remanded and sent to Chanchaluguda jail.
"Even after 20 days of reopening of schools, textbooks have not been distributed to them. Also, there is no infrastructure, facilities, washrooms, etc. in many schools. This is our main demand for tomorrow's bandh," said Sreesailam Veeramalla, ABVP National Executive Council Member and Research Scholar, Osmania University. He also said that the ABVP is demanding for a fee regulatory committee to implement a proper fee structure in both government and private schools.
"We also demand the withdrawal of fake cases that have been booked against the ABVP leaders who protested against the problems faced by the schools in the state," said Veeramalla.
Meanwhile, some of the schools have decided to function on 23 July, the fourth Saturday of this month, compensating for the lost working day.
Some schools in Hyderabad also cited rain for Tuesday's holiday. However, IMD Hyderabad clarified that only light to moderate rains are expected in the city tomorrow.
