Telangana high court issued notices to Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Home, DGP, SP Mulugu, and SHO Mulugu and directed them to file their replies in the murder case of Warangal Advocate M Malla Reddy.
A division bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy asked the state to file their replies by September 8, 2022.
The bench asked the Bar Council of India, Bar Council of Telangana and the Union of India to take up this Public Interest Litigation as it is important that advocates are protected.
Who was Advocate Mulagundla Malla Reddy?
Hailing from Balasmudram in Hanamkonda in Warangal, Advocate Malla Reddy, 59, was hacked to death on Pandikunta cross road National Highway- 163 on August 1, 2022.
Malla Reddy was engaged in laterite soil mining and also owned a petrol pump in Mulugu town. He was also into the real estate business.
The bench described the brutal murder as an unfortunate incident. Chief Justice called for passage of the Advocates Protection Bill in Parliament. He asked Bar members to take it up with the ministry of law.
Case under investigation
Advocate General Banda Shivananda Prasad informed the Court that the police are investigating the crime. Fifteen accused have been identified. Ten including 4 conspirators have been arrested.
Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan appointed senior advocate Ravichandra as Amicus Curiae to assist the court in the matter. The case was adjourned till September 8, 2022.
