Hyderabad: In a shocking act of public humiliation, an Anganwadi teacher was allegedly tied to a tree by villagers in Telangana’s Sangareddy district over a financial fraud attributed to her husband.

Police have arrested five people in connection with the incident, which has triggered outrage.

Incident in Rasole village

The incident occurred on Wednesday in Rasole village of Kangti mandal. The victim, identified as Vasanta Kumari, was on duty when a group of villagers allegedly confronted her, accusing her husband of cheating them.

According to police, the accused tied her to a tree with a rope and subjected her to public humiliation.

Absconding husband accused of financial fraud

Police said Vasanta Kumari’s husband, Prabhakar, had allegedly collected money from residents of Ramaragidda village under the name of a finance firm, ‘HBM Finance,’ promising returns.

After collecting the funds, he reportedly went absconding, leaving villagers enraged.

Villagers took law into their own hands

Angered by the alleged cheating, a group of villagers traced Vasanta Kumari to Rasole village and targeted her for her husband’s actions.

Instead of approaching the authorities, they resorted to taking the law into their own hands, leading to the shocking incident, the police said.

No vigilantism

Following a complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. Five individuals involved in the incident have been arrested, and further inquiries are underway.

Officials stated that strict action will be taken against those responsible and reiterated that vigilantism will not be tolerated.

Always opt for legal recourse

Police have urged citizens to seek legal remedies in cases of financial disputes rather than resorting to unlawful acts. Efforts are also underway to trace the absconding accused, Prabhakar.
