Appointment of Chief Information Commissioner: Telangana govt seeks six weeks to reconstitute committee
The committee will screen applicants and make appointments

Hyderabad: Telangana government on Wednesday sought six weeks to re-constitute a committee for appointing a Chief Information Commissioner and six Information Commissioners in the state under the Right to Information Act, 2005.
The committee includes the leader of the opposition, apart from the leaders of the state government and other officials.
The counsel representing the state government informed the Court that there is a change in the government and the state is yet to re-constitute a committee. The committee will screen applicants and make appointments.
A division bench of the Court was adjudicating the Public Interest Litigation filed by Forum for Good Governance, NGO, represented by its Secretary Sri M Padmanabha Reddy, seeking directions to appoint the Chief Information Commissioner as well as Information Commissioners to the Information Commission under the provisions of the Right to Information Act 2005.
On August 23, 2023, the previous government informed this Court that it had received 40 applications for the post of Chief Information Commission and 273 applications for the post of State Information Commissioners.
The matter has been adjourned for 6 weeks.
