Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, on Tuesday issued a yellow alert for some parts of Telangana under the influence of cyclone Asani. It predicted thunderstorms and gusty winds with a speed of 30-40 kmph on 11 and 12 May.

The weather update said that from 1 p.m on 11 May to 8:30 a.m on 12 May, heavy rains are likely to occur in isolated places in Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Mahabubabad.

Meanwhile, cyclone Asani is moving closer to the Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing gusty winds and heavy rains in some parts of the state. Since Tuesday morning, heavy rains accompanied by strong winds hit Kavali-Nellore divisions, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and several parts of Anakapalle.

IMD Visakhapatnam has issued an orange alert in four districts of AP – Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and East Godavari – where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur on 10 and 11 May. As per the latest reports, cyclone Asani is heading closer to Machilipatnam with Prakasam and Nellore districts witnessing intense rains.

Rains in TS

T. Balaji, popularly known as Telangana Weatherman, said some rains are expected in Telangana on 11 and 12 May due to cyclone Asani. Mainly east Telangana districts close to AP will get moderate to heavy rains in the next two days. "From tonight, parts of Khammam, Nalgonda, and Suryapet districts of Telangana will witness light rains. Gloomy weather expected, perfect relief from heat," he tweeted.




According to the rainfall map that Telangana Weatherman shared for the next two days, parts of Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem are likely to receive heavy rainfall. Some parts of Mulugu, Bhupalapally, Warangal Rural, Mahbubabad, Suryapet, and Nalgonda are likely to receive moderate rainfall. The rest of the state will also experience scattered rainfall.




Meanwhile, temperatures in the state are soaring. Most of the places in the state recorded maximum temperatures of 40°Celsius in the last 24 hours, according to IMD daily weather report. On Tuesday, the state's highest maximum temperature 43°Celsius was recorded in Adilabad.
