Hyderabad: The revenue system, which suffered significant deterioration during the decade-long tenure of the BRS government, is currently undergoing a thorough reform process, stated Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, minister for Revenue, Housing, Information and Public Relations.

Regarding the implementation of the Bhu-Bharati Act in phases, the minister said that over 8 lakh applications were received across the State.

He emphasised that the Bhu-Bharati Act, enacted with the objective of providing a permanent resolution to the protracted land-related issues in Telangana, is being implemented with utmost rigour. The minister highlighted the marked and positive transformation in the revenue administration since the introduction of the Bhu-Bharati Act.

The minister convened a review meeting with senior officials on Saturday, subsequent to the conclusion of Revenue Sadassulu (meetings) conducted throughout the State. Addressing the gathering, he noted that the present government introduced the Bhu-Bharati Act to alleviate the difficulties faced by farmers by repealing the ROR Act of 2020, with an overarching commitment to transparent and accountable governance.

He further remarked that the recent Revenue Sadassulu, which brought to light the hardships and challenges experienced by farmers over the past decade, stand as compelling evidence of the issues being addressed. Over 10 lakh applications concerning land matters were received during the three phases of these meetings.

Implementation of Bhu-Bharati Act

The Bhu-Bharati Act was formally inaugurated on April 14 with an aim to usher in a new era for the State’s revenue system. The Act is being implemented in a phased manner.

In the initial phase, conducted from April 17 to 30, a total of 12,000 applications were received through 72 Revenue Sadassulu held across four mandals. In the second phase, commencing May 5, 46,000 applications were collected in 414 Sadassulu across 28 mandals. The minister reported that over 60 per cent of the issues raised were resolved, excluding cases related to Sadabainama.

Between June 3 and 20, the Revenue Sadassulu were held in 10,239 villages spanning 561 mandals, resulting in the receipt of 8 lakh applications. In aggregate, 10,725 Revenue Sadassulu were conducted across 593 mandals over the course of three phases, with a total of 8.58 lakh applications received.

District-wise, the highest number of applications were submitted from Khammam district with 67,000, followed by Bhadradri Kothagudem with 61,000, Warangal with 54,000, Jayashankar Bhupalapally with 48,000, and Nalgonda with 42,000.

The minister added that on the day preceding the Revenue Sadassulu, free application forms were distributed to farmers within their respective villages.

Special teams were constituted under the supervision of the MROs. Revenue officials proactively visited the public to collect applications free of charge, issuing receipts for all submissions. He further noted that, to date, 3.27 lakh applications have been successfully registered online, and officials have been directed to expedite the registration of the remaining applications.
