The Telangana government is facing a barrage of criticism after Chief Minister KCR provided compensation to Bihar migrant workers during his recent visit to the state. He is being criticized for his failure to provide ex-gratia to the families of Telangana expatriates who died in the Gulf countries. The families of the Gulf workers and the Telangana diaspora are expressing deep dissatisfaction over the government's move to pay compensation to Bihar migrant workers.

During the Telangana movement, KCR had criticized the then United Andhra Pradesh rulers for not supporting Gulf migrants and had promised to give compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs to the families of those who died in Gulf countries after the formation of a separate Telangana.

KCR had announced that a special fund of Rs. 500 crores will be set up for the welfare of Gulf migrants. But he did not fulfill the promise. In addition to this, the ex-gratia of Rs. 1 lakh that was being provided to the families of those who died in the Gulf in united AP was stopped after Telangana was formed. Singireddy Naresh Reddy, Gulf convenor of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee's (TPCC) NRI cell, criticized that state for collecting heavy amounts as quarantine charges from Gulf workers who lost their jobs and returned to Hyderabad during the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, neighboring states had provided free quarantine facilities to Gulf returnees.

The Telangana diaspora, however, welcomed the help provided to the families of soldiers martyred at Galwan valley.
