Hyderabad: T. Usha Bai, the wife of BJP Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh, on Sunday met Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and appealed to her to quash the Preventive Detention Act initiated against her husband. She requested her husband be released to serve the people of Goshamahal as well as Telangana.
She alleged that the Telangana government could not prove the allegations made by the police against her husband and hence they have taken a different means to detain her husband illegally under the PD Act.
Usha said that as a member of the Opposition party, her husband always used to question the ruling government. He questioned government policies for a particular community for a long time, she said.
She alleged that in many cases, the government accused her husband of baseless allegations but the special court constituted for elected representatives granted him justice. "Many times, the ruling government has made a pointed examination of my husband's statements, but no action was initiated on the grave speeches of other communities. This was opposed by my husband," she further said.
Earlier, on 5 September, Usha Bai had filed a writ petition in the Telangana High Court to quash the preventive detention order filed against her husband. She had called the preventive detention illegal, arbitrary, contrary to the law, and in violation of Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India.
MLA Raja Singh was detained under the PD Act on 25 August by the Mangalhat police as per the orders of the Hyderabad city police commissioner and was taken to Cherlapally jail. The city police noted that Raja Singh has been habitually delivering provocative and inflammatory speeches and driving a wedge between communities leading to public disorder.
