Hyderabad: The BRS-led Telangana government on Thursday filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking directions to Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to approve 10 key bills that were still pending with her.

The petition filed by Telangana chief secretary Shanthi Kumari is likely to be listed for hearing within a day or two.

In the petition, the Governor was made one of the respondents apart from the secretary to the Governor.

The Telangana government decided to approach the Supreme Court after some of the bills were pending for more than six months and were not being cleared by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.

The state government headed by CM KCR and the Governor have been at loggerheads for quite some time.

Earlier, in January 2023, with the Governor standing her ground firmly over a protocol row, the state government moved the High Court seeking its intervention to make the Governor clear the Budget. The Cabinet can’t consider and approve the Budget until it is cleared by the Governor. The government grew anxious as the Budget session was fast approaching.

However, respective counsels for the state government and the Governor’s office reached a compromise later, prompting the Telangana High Court to dissolve the case.
