Hyderabad: Telangana ministers T. Harish Rao and Errabelli Dayakara Rao inspected a water treatment plant in Mangole village, located 5.5 km away from Thipparam, as part of the trial run to supply water to four districts—Aleru, Bhongir, Gajwel and Jangaon—by drawing water from the Yellampally reservoir.

Efforts to provide clean drinking water

Speaking to the media, minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Monday highlighted the Telangana government’s efforts to provide clean drinking water to thousands of residents and municipalities in the state. He said, “We have allocated 1,212 crores to provide drinking water to 1,900 residents and 16 municipalities in nine constituencies. Mission Bhagiratha is a remarkable project that has transformed the lives of many Telangana residents. It is a shining example of how a government can work to provide essential services to its citizens.”

The minister further added, “We are using the latest technology to filter rainwater and provide it to households. This has helped us to provide clean and safe drinking water to our citizens.”

He emphasised the importance of Mission Bhagiratha for Telangana and urged the Central government to support the state’s efforts. “We will continue to work towards the welfare of our citizens and ensure that they have access to basic necessities like clean drinking water. Mission Bhagiratha is a crucial project for us, and we hope that the Centre will recognise its significance and provide us with the necessary support.”

The success of Mission Bhagiratha

Minister T. Harish Rao expressed his delight at the success of Mission Bhagiratha and said, “The 540 MLD water release every day is the most sustainable day in the history of Mission Bhagiratha. This success is a result of our use of the latest technology and equipment, and the fact that the entire scheme was undertaken with state government funds.”

He also highlighted the importance of the Mallannasagar reservoir. “We have also taken the initiative to construct Mallannasagar, the largest man-made reservoir in the world, to supply water to 1,922 villages in seven districts and 10 constituencies,” he sai.

Harish Rao on Governor’s actions

While addressing the media, Mr. Rao criticised the actions of the Governor, stating that the Central independence systems were being used politically. He thanked the Governor for finally passing three Bills but suggested that the delay was unnecessary. “We passed the Bills in the Assembly, and they were sent to the Governor. But they were kept in abeyance for seven months, which we feel is unnecessary. We do not understand why they were kept pending,” he added.

Mr. Rao also criticised the Centre for not cooperating with Telangana and not delivering the promised funds for the state’s Mission Bhagiratha project. “We are undertaking the best programme in Mission Bhagiratha, but the Centre is not cooperating with us. They promised funds but have not delivered,” he said.

The minister stated that the state had a right to demand the funds it was promised and that it was not acceptable for the Centre to not cooperate.
