CM Revanth urges Centre to fast-track 3 rail corridors from Hyderabad, offers 500-acre land near airport

New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged the Centre to fast-track the proposed high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with Chennai, Bengaluru, and Pune.

He pitched for commencing the projects from Shamshabad near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

He also offered 500 acres of land near the airport to facilitate the ambitious rail network.

The Chief Minister met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Parliament and sought early land acquisition and commencement of works for the three corridors announced in the Union Budget 2026–27.

High-Speed Corridors from Shamshabad

The proposed high-speed rail routes include:

Hyderabad–Chennai (778 km)

Hyderabad–Bengaluru (586 km)

Hyderabad–Pune (556 km)

Revanth Reddy said beginning the corridors from Shamshabad would transform the airport region into a strategic tri-junction, significantly enhancing passenger and cargo connectivity.

He requested the Railway Minister to initiate land acquisition immediately and expedite project execution. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Union Minister responded positively.

Industrial push for Kodangal region

During the meeting, the Chief Minister outlined plans to develop Kodangal Assembly constituency, along with Tekalkode and Daulatabad, as industrial hubs.

He pointed out that the Krishna region’s proximity to major cement industries in neighbouring Karnataka provides significant scope for cement and textile manufacturing expansion.

He also highlighted the identification of limestone deposits in Tekalkode along the proposed Krishna–Vikarabad railway line, which could support industrial growth in the region.

Rail link to Bandar Port sought

Noting that the Hyderabad–Chennai high-speed corridor is proposed to pass through Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister requested a rail link connecting Amaravati to Bandar Port. He said such connectivity would accelerate cargo movement from the proposed dry port in Telangana and strengthen logistics infrastructure.

Krishna–Vikarabad line funding

Revanth Reddy appealed to the Railway Minister to complete the Krishna–Vikarabad railway line entirely with central funds. He reminded the Minister that the State government had already committed to bearing the full cost of land acquisition for the project.

Suggestions to RITES on alignments

Separately, the Chief Minister reviewed alignment proposals for the Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Hyderabad–Chennai high-speed corridors with officials of Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), which has been entrusted by the Railway Ministry with preparing the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).

RITES representatives gave a PowerPoint presentation at the Chief Minister’s official residence in New Delhi. After examining the proposed alignments and DPR plans, Revanth Reddy offered several suggestions to ensure optimal routing and integration with Telangana’s infrastructure and industrial development plans.

Principal Secretary K.S. Srinivasa Raju, Secretary (Coordination) Dr. Gaurav Uppal, and RITES (Urban Infrastructure) Executive Director Lalit Kumar were present at the meeting.
