Cold wave warning in TS; Mercury to drop further in coming nights

According to the Telangana State Development and Planning Society’s (TSDPS) forecast for 22 to 25 January, the minimum temperatures are expected to be in the range of 14 to 17°Celsius in the state .

Cold wave warning in TS; Mercury to drop further in coming nights

Hyderabad: While Telangana continues to see low minimum temperatures, especially during the nights, chillier nights await the people, predict weather reports and independent weather observers in the city.

According to the Telangana State Development and Planning Society's (TSDPS) forecast for 22 to 25 January, the minimum temperatures are expected to be in the range of 14 to 17°Celsius in the state whereas in the GHMC area, the minimum temperatures are expected to be in the range of 15 to 17°Celsius. As per the minimum temperature forecast maps prepared by TSDPS, on the night of 23 and 24 January, many districts in the state are expected to witness temperatures below 10°Celsius.






T. Balaji, an independent weather observer in the city popular as Telangana Weatherman, said the strong cold wind from central India was the reason for the cold wave conditions in the state. He tweeted, "Severe Cold Wave Warning- Due to strong winds from Central India, there will be massive Cold Wave during Jan 24-30, peak effect during Jan 26-29, please stay alert. Temperatures will drop below 5 degrees Celsius in North Telangana during Jan 26-29 and upto 9 to 10 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad."



He also shared a map showing the intensity of the cold wave from 24-30 January in different districts of Telangana. The cold wave has been grouped as severe, intense, moderate, and nil. According to it, nine districts – Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Adilabad, Komarambheem Asifabad, and Mancherial – have been given severe cold wave warnings. An intense cold wave alert has been given for Hyderabad.




Meanwhile, IMD Hyderabad has not issued any warnings for the next five days in the state.

According to IMD Hyderabad daily weather report, Hakimpet in Medak district recorded the state's lowest minimum temperature of 16.4°Celsius on 23 January. Medak recorded 16.5°Celsius and Adilabad 16.7°Celsius in the last 24 hours.

The entire state recorded no rainfall in the last 24 hours.




On Sunday, the state's highest maximum temperature was 33.5°Celsius recorded in Hyderabad.
