Karimnagar: NSUI state president Venkat Balmoori who had contested the Huzurabad by-poll on a Congress ticket was booked for stealing a donkey.

The Jammikunta Town police station in Karimnagar district booked Mr. Balmoori under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 153 (offense of rioting to be committed), 504 (intentionally insults, and thereby gives provocation to any person), and 379 (for theft) of the IPC, and section 67 (sent to be 'lascivious or lewd' on IT platform) of the IT Act.

Speaking to NewsMeter, the Jammikunta police station circle inspector said they received a complaint from Telangana Rashtra Samithi Jammikunta town president who said Mr. Balmoor had tied a photo of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on the donkey. He had also made that animal cut a cake on the occasion of KCR's birthday.

The complainant also said Mr. Balmoori had stolen the donkey from the nearby Satavahana University in Karimnagar. The NSUI president's actions had hurt the sentiments of thousands of TRS workers, they further said.

The police, after receiving the complaints, took Mr. Balmoor into custody on Thursday night. "Because of his action, there was a chance of riots between TRS and Congress workers as he was supposed to attend the Sammakka-Sarakka festival in the town," said the CI of Jammikunta Town police station.

The police added that the IT Act was added in the FIR as Mr. Balmoor had shared videos and photos on social media.
