COVID-19: Medchal Malakjgiri reports highest positivity rate in TS

Hyderabad: Medchal Malakjgiri district in Telangana recorded the highest weekly test positivity rate (TPR). According to the state health department data, between 30 December 2021 and 5 January 2022, the TPR in Medchal Malkajgiri was 4.66%.

Rangareedy reported the second-highest TPR of 3.22% followed by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation with 2.76% and Sangareddy with 2.4%.

The lowest TPR was recorded in Jogulamba Gadwal and Nagarkurnool district (0.08%). The average TPR in the states was 1.7%.

On 5 January, the state recorded a TPR of 3.5%.

The three districts – Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal Malkajgiri – reported around 80% cases in the state. The average positivity rate in the state in the last four days was 3.5%.

According to health officials, restrictions will be considered only when the positivity rate is more than 10% and hospitalization more than 40%.

On 8 January, Telangana reported 2,606 new COVID-19 cases. Of the total 73,156 samples tested, 3.5% tested positive. Around 285 people recovered from the infection and two died on Saturday. GHMC contributed around 60% of the positive cases (1,583).

On 7 January, the state had reported 2,295 COVID-19 cases. The number of positive cases went up by 13.5% on 8 January.
