Cow welfare: CM Revanth forms high-level committee to draft policy for goshalas
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has constituted a high-level committee to draft a comprehensive policy for goshalas and cattle care, aiming to enhance cow welfare and protection across the state.
The committee will study best practices from across the country and recommend sustainable, culturally sensitive models for implementation within the state.
Top officials appointed to lead policy formulation
The newly formed committee includes three senior bureaucrats, including Special Chief Secretary (Animal Husbandry) Sabyasachi Ghosh, Principal Secretary (Endowments) Shailaja Ramaiyer, and Secretary (Agriculture) Raghunandan Rao.

Focus on devoteesā sentiments and cultural values
The chief minister held a review meeting at his residence with Minister Vakiti Sridhar and other top officials. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of respecting the religious and emotional sentiments of devotees when drafting the new cow protection policy.
Modern Goshalas to be set up in key locations
As part of the plan, the government has identified priority areas for the construction of modern cow shelters, including temple townsāVemulawada and Yadagirigutta, Enikepalli near Hyderabad, and the Animal Husbandry University surroundings. A special emphasis was also laid on building a 100-acre goshala near Vemulawada to accommodate large numbers of donated cattle.
CM expresses concern over existing challenges
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the deaths of donated cows due to a lack of space and poor upkeep in the current goshalas. He emphasized the urgent need for advanced infrastructure and better management practices to prevent such incidents.
No Budget constraint for Cow Welfare
Reaffirming his governmentās commitment, Revanth Reddy declared that Telangana would not hold back on spending for cow welfare. During the meeting, officials submitted an approach paper outlining key steps for policy implementation and infrastructure development.

The initiative marks a crucial step towards developing a sustainable, ethical, and culturally aligned system of cow protection in Telangana. The new policy is expected to become a model for other states as well.
