Deferring salaries case: TS HC directs govt to pay 6% interest to employees, pensioners

Telangana: Telangana High Court on Monday directed the state government to pay 6% interest to the pensioners and the employees as per the direction of the Supreme Court. Due to the Covid-19 situation, the Telangana government in 2020 deferred 50% of the salaries and pensions of its employees and pensioners.

A batch of writ petitions was filed by the employees and pensioners against the move. Employees and pensioners of Andhra Pradesh State approached the Supreme Court, aggrieved by such an action of the AP Government in deferring their salaries and pensions and sought 12% interest on the salaries and pensions.

After hearing the pleas of the AP employees and pensioners, the SC ordered the government to pay 6% interest on salaries and pensions. On Monday, a division bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji directed the BRS Government to pay 6% interest to the pensioners and employees, as directed by the Supreme Court.
