Hyderabad: Telangana State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT) has urged the Director of School Education to curtail the Dussehra holidays from 14 days to 9 days to make up for the academic loss.
SCERT has proposed nine days holiday from October 1.
Usually, the Dussehra holidays for schools start on September 26 and end on October 9.
Director of SCERT Telangana Radha Reddy cited the academic loss of students for reducing the number of holidays
"The government had declared holidays for schools from 11 July to 16 July due to heavy rains and on 17 September for the National Integration Day. Further, as per the academic calendar 2022-23, there was a loss of 7 days," said Radha Reddy
She said there are only 230 working days in a year and that reducing the Dussehra would provide five extra days for students.
If not, the SCERT has proposed for the functioning of schools on second Saturdays in November and December 2022, and February, March, and April 2023 (5 days) to make up for the academic loss.
