Expect a 3°C temperature rise in Telangana over next three days: Follow this govt advisory to stay safe

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has forecast a gradual rise in temperatures across Telangana by 2–3°C over the next three days.

To protect citizens from the escalating heat, the Office of the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare has released an essential advisory on Thursday to help manage the sweltering conditions.

Essential guidelines for beating the heat

1. Do’s: How to stay protected

Prioritise Hydration: Drink plenty of water even if you aren’t thirsty. Consume ORS, lemon water, buttermilk or fruit juices, as required. Carry water with you whenever you travel.

Stay Covered and Cool: Wear thin, light-coloured cotton clothing and always cover your head with an umbrella, hat or towel when outdoors. Always wear footwear.

Optimise Your Home Environment: Stay indoors in well-ventilated areas. Keep windows and curtains closed during the day to block heat and open them at night to let in cooler air.

Stay Informed: Monitor local weather updates via TV, radio, newspapers or the official IMD website

2. Don’ts: Risks to avoid

Avoid Peak Heat: Stay indoors between 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm and avoid strenuous physical activities during the afternoon.

Watch Your Diet: Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated/sugary drinks, as these can cause fluid loss and stomach cramps. Steer clear of high-protein, salty, spicy or oily foods, and never consume stale food.

Safety Precautions: Do not go out barefoot and avoid cooking during the peak heat hours of the day.

Be aware of your symptoms

If you or anyone around you experiences symptoms like a throbbing headache, dizziness, rapid heart rate, confusion or a body temperature reaching 40°C (104°F), seek immediate medical attention at the nearest government health facility.

The government has made special provisions for beds, IV fluids, and medicines at all public health centres to assist those in need.
